International Design Competition for the Expansion of the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec
HonorFinalist of International design competition for the expansion of the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec
The proposed design for the museum expansion unites contemporary forms with the historical context. This pavilion takes its inspiration from the substance and basic forms of the surrounding landscape: the rock, earth, wood, snow and sky. The volumes of the pavilion are expressed through a series of interlocking shells, creating a configuration which allows the building to capture natural illumination and open itself towards the city.
Apart from exhibition areas, the program includes a significant number of public spaces such as an auditorium, archive and conservation areas and administrative offices.
