This new endoscopy department was designed and built for Hôpital de Verdun. It contains three distinct spaces for gastroscopy, urological endoscopy, bronchoscopy, recovery (ten stretchers and four armchairs) as well as an area for reprocessing endoscopes. The spatial organization of the department reflects the functional circulation path routinely taken by b oth staff and patients, which is reinforced by the integration of an intuitive way finding system.
The presence of asbestos and fungal contamination within the construction zone necessitated that work during the demolition phase of this project be carried out under conditions designated as high risk. This type of project also demanded strict coordination with the engineering professionals, given the highly technical nature of the various mechanical and electrical installations, and the congestion of these systems resulting from restricted space within the ceiling plenum.
